The Buteyko Breathing Method was developed to restore normal breathing patterns that help the body to function more efficiently. When we are under stress, we over-breathe, or hyperventilate, which is defined as breathing more than needed for our metabolic needs at any given time. Chronic hyperventilation creates an imbalance in the body allowing conditions such as asthma, snoring, sleep apnea, rhinitis, and performance anxiety to develop. Buteyko Breathing creates a better understanding of how breathing affects our bodies. Breathing exercises are taught and utilized to help students become aware of their breathing and maintain a normal breathing pattern.
